課程概述

Course objective
This course consists mainly of translation exercises (English to Chinese and
vice versa) and translation theories. Hopefully our discussion and practice
will help hone your translation skills and also alert you to the ideological
implications in cross-cultural translation.

Fall
Translation theories, presentations, and exercises

Preview of Spring 2005
Exercises; case studies (Work in a team of 2-3 people. Choose an English-to-
Chinese text of 80 pages or more, and analyze its translation strategies,
strengths and weaknesses. Turn in your proposal by 12/21.)

To prepare students for future translation tasks and to make them aware of the
ideological implications in cross-cultural translation.
